What is your level of reactivity?
Is it easy or hard to "push your buttons?"
You can think about your level of reactivity as a thermometer. It goes up and it goes down.

Here's an example: Say you are in a very good mood, walking down the street on your way to an enjoyable activity. You are happy, feeling good, looking forward to the future. As you walk along, a passerby bumps your leg with her shopping bag. You ignore it. You decide not to break the spell of your good mood. Your level of reactivity to that bump is low to nonexistent.

Let's imagine the same scenario but this time you are in a bad mood, stressed, tired, maybe coming from an event that went badly. This time when the passerby bumps your leg, it is the proverbial "straw that broke the camel's back" and you react. You communicate your upset with a look, some language, or body posture that lets the other person know you don't like what just happened. This time your level of reactivity to the bump is high.

In both examples, the event (the shopping bag bumping your leg) is the same. What's different is your response to the event, fueled by your level of reactivity.

The thermometer is low in the first scene and high in the second scene. Anger management training can help you learn how to keep the thermometer low.

Key Element #2:
What to do with anger when it happens.

Key Element #3:
How to manage the way you think so you can manage the way you react.
